We have often been reminded that our perfect Lord has called imperfect people to assist in His work. One could ask, is that because He needs our help? Or is it that in helping Him, we can become more like Him? Who is blessed when we accept the invitation to be “anxiously engaged”?
“For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.
Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; For the power is in them…” (D&C 58: 26-28)
In Paragraph 9 of The Family: A Proclamation to the World, we are all given a call to the work, “We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.”
When we defend important principles of the family in every day conversation and as we live that testimony within our families, we are fulfilling sacred roles as disciples. President Nelson speaks of that in the following:
“The day is gone when you can be a quiet and comfortable Christian. Your religion is not just about showing up for church on Sunday. It is about showing up as a true disciple from Sunday morning through Saturday night—24/7! There is no such thing as a “part-time” disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus invited anyone who wants to be His disciple to take up His cross and follow Him. Are you ready to join the ranks? The youth of Zion will not falter! I believe you will be courageous and proclaim God’s truth with clarity and kindness, even when His truth is politically unpopular!”

Even as imperfect as we are, He will bless our efforts and all can be enriched in the process.
