We all know that President Russel M. Nelson was a renowned heart surgeon before his call to be an apostle. Although he has given many talks that refer to the heart and having a “change of heart” (like we learn about in this week’s Come Follow Me in Alma 5:26), it might surprise you to learn he has given even more talks on the topic of the family and the Family Proclamation.
The family is in the heart of the prophet.
It is in the heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Is the doctrine of family proclamation etched deeply in our hearts?
The prophet has consistently born testimony about the family and God’s plan in many of his talks:
“I know “that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” (Family Proclamation)
“I know that the earth was created and that the Lord’s Church was restored so that families could be sealed and exalted as eternal entities.”
“I know that one of Satan’s cunning methods of undermining the work of the Lord is to attack the sacred institutions of marriage and the family.”
“I know … marriage and family are ordained of God. The family is the most important social unit in time and in eternity.”
“”I know … The earth was created that families might be. Scripture explains that a husband and wife “shall be one flesh, and all this that the earth might answer the end of its creation.”
“I know … Each of us has to strengthen the family—the basic component of society, and the fundamental unit of the Church. The family is provided in God’s plan to nurture his children and prepare them to return to him—as families.”
“I know … the proclamation on the family helps us realize that celestial marriage brings greater possibilities for happiness than does any other relationship. The earth was created and this Church was restored so that families could be formed, sealed, and exalted eternally.”
Again …
The family is in the heart of the prophet.
It is in the heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
