Were you always taught the main purpose of our coming to the earth is to obtain a body and gain experience?
While it’s important, it’s only one piece. Perhaps one that many of us might have been missing our whole life. And once you see it, you can’t “unsee” it.
In looking at this week’s Come, Follow Me scripture readings, the prophet Lehi teaches us some fascinating things about the family in 2 Nephi 2:15-28 but there is one sentence that is doctrinal gold:
“To bring about his eternal purposes” (vs 15) …”they [Adam and Eve] have brought forth children; yea, even the family of all the earth” (vs. 20).
Put differently, President Russell M. Nelson taught:
“Grand as it is, planet Earth is part of something even grander—that great plan of God. Simply summarized, the earth was created that families might be.”
“Central to God’s plan is the family.”
“The purposes of the earth and the purposes of the Church both would be defeated if families were not sealed in holy temples.”
“The earth was created and this Church was restored so that families could be formed, sealed, and exalted eternally.”
And finally, with his name etched into a proclamation and standing united with prophets, seers and revelators, President Nelson declared:
“The family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” (Family Proclamation).
Central to God’s plan.
The family, as patterned by Adam and Eve, is, quite literally, the reason for God’s plan and our being here on earth.
