Throughout Jesus’ ministry, people marveled at His teachings and doctrine. Whether on the hillsides or in the synagogues, His doctrine was for all.
The simple.
The educated.
The poor.
The wealthy.
The young.
The old.
And it is no different today.
He invites everyone to learn of His doctrine and teachings, whether it be the humblest or the most learned of seekers of truth.
But how can we follow His teachings and doctrine when He is not physically here with us today? He has called prophets and apostles to be “special witnesses” of Him to all the world. These special witnesses of Christ represent Him and teach what He asks them to teach on His behalf.
In 1995, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” was created by fifteen special witnesses of Christ. They signed their names to a historic declaration of Christ’s doctrine on the family to all the world. Today, many may marvel at His teachings on societal issues and wonder what is true. That is why it is no small thing to have prophets and apostles in our midst. They represent Jesus Christ and teach His doctrine to all the world. So how can we know that the teachings the family proclamation are true and represent the doctrine of Christ? Jesus’ answer to us is the same as it was in His day: “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same” (D&C 1: 38).
